Draft log
Fascing pivot as late as PACK TWO SEVENTH PICK. Which is a little late to be thinking pivot, which is also probably how I missed it. Should I have gone into red here?
Here’s the situation:
Let’s break this down into chunks. First is the “best card in the pack” vs “best fit with what I’ve drafted so far”
Let’s start with the Warsinger. It’s probably about a B. 3-mana 3/3 vigilance/trample is a solid value card just on its own. If it hits (or tramples over), bringing back creatures is serious value. The only knock against it is that it’s a bit of a “win more”.
What I currently have in black: Flunk, Juke, Silverquill Apprentice, Squad, and the Owl. Those are all good cards in a coherent, deck. Flunk is the strongest, but I opened it in pack 2 so it’s not like black has been terribly clear in my lane (neither was red).
Finally, the ‘status-quo’ pick is Study Break. Which is a great card, one of the best white commons. Also it perfectly fits what I need, since I’m short on Learn cards. But… it’s also a common.
By walking through it, even though it is late in pack 2, I should have speculated on the higher pick of the Warsinger. Yes Study Break is good, but I’m pretty clearly getting hooked up in white and there will be future Study Breaks. And my black is solid, but unspectacular. It’s easy to overcount my black by looking at the hybrid cards.
What would have happened if I had gone with the Warsinger? Next picks:
That’s a Heated Debate in the next pack that wheeled around followed by some C+ cards going late. Yikes.

Deck ended up a fine Silverquill deck. Just… fine.
2-1
Keep or mull?

This was a rough one. Really needs a plains to get going, but there is action on 4 mana against a pretty quick silverquill deck. This was a very unhappy keep… but I drew into a plains my first turn and sweated it out. Not sure if it was correct to keep though.

stop the presses – what’s up with the border on Shock?

Those are the Mythic Archive cards! One card in each pack is a reprint with special art and border. It’s a very fun spice in the limited environment
