It does make me wonder why sitting through election results is *ever* a good idea. It’s the equivalent of someone taking the scores from a game, randomizing the order, and then slowly telling you “A TD… then four field goals, nevermind about that touchdown…” It’s insanity.

However, I did hear a good line, “Now the only way for Trump to reach 270 is to lose 40 pounds.” Heh heh heh.

Draft log

Deeply, deeply weird draft. I felt like I got into green for the “wrong reasons” and green and red both kind of felt open, yet absolutely zero payoff for being in green or red ever made its way to me.

interesting pick: P2p2

Craaaaap. There’s Roost of Drakes passed to me in pack 2. Blue was absolutely not available in the first pack, and I have one blue kicker card. Do I take one of the most powerful cards in the set and desperately try to make it work? The weird part is that I felt okay about being in RG, but my cards aren’t particularly powerful. I chickened out and didn’t take it. The deck ended up very weak.

game plan

Hmm, half landfall and half party synergies. Not great! Also very little interaction. So I think I just have to play slow and hope my big bois get on the table to either provide beef and/or additional landfall triggers.

round 1

Decent curve out potential, but needs lands. I did not get lands.

Sideboarding: be on the play against GW. Kept another two lander, and continued to miss land drops. Sort of stabilized, then sort of got crushed by Felidar Retreat. How could you turn on me old friend?!

round 2

On curve Fledging put me under a lot of pressure. Then they reloaded with Spoils of Adventure and it was pretty much all over. Actually landed my Ashaya! But not soon enough.

Second round I mulled away a one-lander only to draw into… another one-lander. I swear this deck has 19 lands in it! I kept this one with severe reservations, but it has a decent curve out. I did end up drawing lands, but not forests and lost pretty resoundingly.

0-2

Drafted a bad deck, in a mediocre color that was not open (green) and lost some games of Magic. Sometimes it really is that simple!

One thought on “Post-Game: 11-4-20

  1. re taking the political bait: watching coverage is all about playing games.

    1) spot the “that’s not how math works”
    2) wolf blitzer interrupts to bring you “not news”
    3) watching the touch screen people in the background
    4) and of course … clothes choices. not as good as the oscars but still delightful
