Probably horribly outing myself as a Paper Boomer here, but *man* there is not enough time being spoiler season and drafting full-bore. I think the LR set review dropped a day or two before drafting opened up on Arena. I am a gentleman of leisure! I need to listen in my armchair with a snuffer of brandy

Draft log

Hmm, that rare looks like a very unreliable sweeper (probably bonkers in constructed). I’ve heard everyone raving about the flip-lands so I take that.

Vastwood Surge looks pretty solid (splash, landfall, and cast a really big Overrun later). But if the flip-lands are good once, they’re good twice! Stayed in red.

Here I make a mistake. I think the Fledgling actually is powerful enough to take over a flip-land. Close though!

I think this is a close choice. I think they’re both B-/B cards, so the Geopede gets the nod with the two red flip-lands.

Summary

Round one oppo had Mirror Jace. that’s a lot of scrying! But not that impressive. Second round had oppo on color screw that I rapidly ran over. Third opponent had a pretty solid deck, but the Pick-Axe applies a lot of pressure. Both games I used the Treachery effect to get oppo down within range.

Interesting Moments

To Wheel?

So I successfully wheeled the RG Brushfire elemental in pack 2. Do I get greedy and try it again! I did! But for some reason this time it didn’t work. Bah.

Keep or mull

A beautiful spread of cards… with no action until a turn 4 Zendikon (which can’t even block). Felt bad, but mulled it.

This felt terrible the other direction, but this I kept. Removal + a 3 drop is enough early board presence. Plus kicking the Sproutling can bring back an early Roil Eruption cast, which is pretty much living the dream there.

3-0

Okay, well this deck seriously overperformed. But it applied a lot of pressure and didn’t give opposing decks second chances. Dropping two lands at instant speed is BONKERS.

    1. I think “Paper Boomer” is the official term for old fashioned players who play with physical cards, refer to the “mana pool” and still think Serra Angel is OP.

What do you mean by the land thing?
