Hypergeometric Calculator

Ever need to figure out what your odds are for drawing an out with 22 cards left in your library! Look no further! Kind of a technical interface, but the example (right) shows the odds of drawing an additional land if you have a two-land hand. So you have 33 cards in the library (pop size), 15 lands remaining (successes), you’re giving yourself 3 drawsteps (sample size) and you only need one to make it a success (number of successes). Ta da!

17Lands

A truly incredible tool that does the best job of gathering all your data and reviewing drafts, games, and giant datasets. Yes, it requires installing a piece of unverified software, but it is totally worth it.

Magic Pro tools

For those who hold to the old ways (aka MTGO instead of Arena), this tool is indispensable. Make sure you’ve turned on storing draft logs (why this defaults to “no” is anyone’s guess). Upload the text file and peruse your draft picks, looking for mistakes or lost signals. Easily the best (and only) way to review your draft choices.

Mythic Spoilers

A good site for cruising during spoiler season and also for grabbing card images for your lonely, lonely blog.

MtG Arena

Doing some drafting IRL and need to handle pairings? This webpage does a super job of automatically doing all of the hard work. Highly recommend. Also has a nice throwback to the art for the original Arena Magic card from that one book!

Podcasts & Content

Limited Resources

Nearly 100% that anyone stumbling across this blog would also be listening to Limited Resources, but in case you’re not, go subscribe to this podcast. Probably the most successful Magic podcast out there, it focuses on drafting. Pioneering segments and concepts like “Crack-a-pack”, Quadrant Theory, build-arounds, it’s a great weekly podcast that somehow stays fresh after 400+ episodes.

Lords of Limited

A newer podcast with a Limited focus, if LR is “Drafting 101” then LoL is “Drafting 201”. It definitely builds and riffs off LR concepts like the grades, but tends to go deeper in depth. They will also walk through the first 8 picks of a draft, not just the Crack-a-Pack pack 1/pick 1.
