Which is worse: thinking you have a great deck that gets crushed or thinking your 40 cards are terrible and you… end… up… undefeated? Just what exactly is going on here?

I don’t think it’s too much of an exaggeration to say that there’s a lot of junk in this deck. Some desperation includes:

These are D+/C- at best. And while they all have some decks where they can be powerful, GW stuff isn’t it. On the other side, there are some powerful-ish cards.

What was interesting is that this deck had a lot of accidental synergy. It didn’t have great early attacks, but could defend decently and then get out a grove (or two!) or Sunrise or something else slowly grinds out value. The number of times I would have a board state that looked like this was egregious:

Double Dormant Grove *is* Citadel Siege, except with upside as it can turn into a creature and give your now-big creatures vigilance. The “attack mode” on Glorious Sunrise is +1/+1 *and* trample, which can really make combat math difficult for your opponent. Plus the little mini-combo of Dormant Grove + Cloaked Cadet is some more additional card draw.

Finally, its worth noting that late in a format I always go on a mini-win streak. I suspect this is because other Spikes go off to the holiday cube and/or get a little tired. So I’m sort of doing the online equivalent of shoving elementary school students and taking their lunch money. Still counts!

  1. i just had a similar experience. thought my draft was bad and trophied, the next one was better and 2-3.

which is worse? the one where you lose! Bam! you’re welcome.

elaboration: we like to think there is less variance than there is. also, glorious sunrise is rediculous, it plus a few early butts and you are off. also re blood servitor, it goes up in value in gw
