Draft log

Well started with a bomb. Firja’s Retribution is a ridiculous card in an weaker color combination. But it’s almost a certain 2-for-1, gifting a Serra Angel for 4-mana and then a quasi-punch effect. So with that I buckle on and, as long as black/white is moderately open, I plan to stay and fight in that lane.

Which it turned out to be, somewhat. White was a little light in my seat, but when the next picks went powerful BW land, W removal, B removal, I was in. I did try to play around a little to see if I could snag some snow to see if I could make that work, but I couldn’t.

deck

game plan

This deck is on the control spectrum, utilizing a *lot* (six) of removal to buy time until 4/4 angels are thundering around the battlefield. Not a lot of card advantage aside from forcing some discard. So play slow, don’t blow removal on medium threats. The only other source of recurring card advantage is a deathtouch rune and two pieces of equipment.

round 1

Game 1

A little heavy on lands, but I can attack their hand and a for-sure good 5-drop. Sadly they turboed out 5/5 dragons on turn four with the Sculptor of Winter and that, as they say, was that.

game 2

(A little slow on the screenshot but you can see a totally decent hand)

Yikes. So not only turboing out 5/5 dragons, but also has Path, Cosmos Elixir and tons of snow lands. Needless to say, I lost pretty badly. Not fast enough to punish 5C snow.

round 2

Game 1

Not great lacking black mana, but at least I have a play before turn four so I kept. Curve out and go find those angels.

Under pressure from the Chariot and folded to it.

game 2

Lost the screenshots due to a toddler on the lap. But I sideboarded in artifact hate, nuked the chariot and eventually an army of angels swept me to victory.

game 3

Ugh, again with the four drops. Still, I have my best card in hand and they’re not that fast so it’s a keep. If I knew I was facing a curve-out aggro deck, this is a mull.

aaaaand they curve out perfectly (note the 4/4 Bloodline Pretender). I cast a desperation Frija, but the King Harald’s Revenge blows right though it as I get run over.

round 3

Game 1

Now this is gold!

Skipped a few turns in there, but oppo played enchantment removal that allowed me to sacrifice to make angels QUITE happily. They then afk’d for the loss.

1-2
