Draft log

P1p1

Easy Felidar retreat. Gives me flashbacks to Citadel Siege (and all of the absurd bombs in Fate Reforged)

P1p2

On-color removal > a powerful gold card.

P1p3

A little earlier than you would want to take Blood-Priest, but it’s good in a lot of decks. Arbor mage is pretty good, but I wouldn’t say it’s incredible.

P1p4

This is interesting. Blood Beckoning is a great card, but Pick 4 is a bit early for it. And Geopede is very powerful and if we end up in RW landfall, it’s great. The power gap is worth speculating on the Geopede.

p1p5

Honestly after that is was pretty much on rails for BW clerics. It felt contested, not seeing a single Kor Celebrant was unhappy. And it felt like blue and red was underdrafted at the table, but there clearly wasn’t a wizards deck open.

Summary

Round one was against a very good UG kicker deck that also kept landing a turn 1 Ruin Crab (which is sort of the kryptonite against clerics durdling around). In game 2 I juuuust barely got opponent for exactsies which… sort of tilted them. Round 3 was also an incredible comeback, as I was able to get the Scions up and running. Definitely some feisty topdecks. Faced a mirror cleric deck that did some serious work with the Demon’s Disciple and Attended Healer. Plenty of sacrifice fodder. Plus the Disciple is a cleric (eeeeevil cleric) so it could even gain lifelink! First game of flood and second of screw didn’t help matters, but it was a very good deck. Handily won round three including a fun Yahtzee where I cast all three of my Blood-Priests with a full party. 2-mana 2/1 that drains 4 is definitely a card and a half.

2-1
