Draft log

Pack 1 pick 1 is a pretty clear Shatterskull Charger and not particularly close. The infiltrator is a good card and will find a home in almost any deck, with or without rogue buddies. But it doesn’t have the board impact of the Charger. It’s a B- vs. B+.

P1p2

Spikefield Hazard is a great flip-land and the flexibility does make it a solid B. But I like the Vanguard going with a top-notch warrior and it’s a solid 2-drop.

P1p3

I snapped up Relic Axe, but looking at it that might have been a little greedy and overly influenced by having taking two warriors in a row. Hindsight: should have been the flip-land.

P1p4

This was a tougher pick. Both Ambush and Blademaster have higher ceilings than the Hellion. Do I go the RW warrior route with a really strong core or take the green flip card that’s less warrior-focused but a better card? I’d be very interested in your thoughts.

P1p5

Well the lack of red is distressing. Binding vs. Archon? I fell into the classic blunder and assumed that the rare would be better, but I think it’s a clear Binding in hindsight. 2/3 flier is a fine card

The red frees up a little and a P1p8 Rabid Bite I read as a signal and lurch into green. A little dry in pack 2, but the lane is clear in pack 3.

Summary

First round I had a very nice curve-out of warriors that negated all blockers and ran over a kicker deck before it could go off. Then had a great fight against GW, but in game there was a Scut Swarm and Ancient Greenwarden. They created six 1/1s in a single turn and so yeah, that was real ugly. Good deck! Third round was UB which was easily dispatched.

Interesting Moments

P1p4

This was a really interesting pick. At the time, pretty firmly on the red train, but the only red card is perfectly replacable filler in the Hellion. So if I’m not taking a red card, do I take the very good green flip-land? Or the very narrow but potentially very powerful Kor Blademaster? In the P1p1 arena, it’s not particularly close: Khalni Ambush is a clear winner. When you already have two warriors and a good equipment, the ceiling on the Blademaster is much higher. So I went with the blademaster, only for there to be no white to speak of and ended up back in green. Still, I stand by the choice.
