Coaching session with Ethan from Lords of Limited! I took a stay-cation day and decided to try it. I’ve never done digital coaching before and it was astoundingly helpful. A little odd, since I’ve listened to 200+ hours of the Lords of Limited Podcast, it felt like being reunited with an friend/celebrity.

Draft log

Unfortunately since I was drafting on my laptop, 17lands didn’t capture the draft. Which is a shame because it was FASCINATING. I durdled in RG by default, only for a P2p5 Experimental Overload to be in a pack with just a bunch of Cs/C-s. So with encouragement from my coach, we sharply veered into UR and built a pretty good deck!

Summary

Okay, first time piloting UR and I definitely made plenty of gameplay mistakes. Forgetting that I had trample from an earlier Crash Through. Just not doing Prowess math correctly. Gar! It’s so much easier when your deck doesn’t have any Instants in it! However I found redemption in the next two matches winning them pretty handily. Second round was beating up on a mediocre Jund deck (two maindeck Duress). Round three saw Brash Taunter getting me out of a tough keep (see below) and then easily winning.

Interesting Moments

Keep or mull?

This is not the hand you want to see when playing UR spells. But it had action early. More critically, it drew into Brash Taunter which won the game is pretty short order.

2-1

  1. re keep or mull: if i am reading the curve correctly in your previous image you are like 2-drop loaded. I think you have to hope to draw one especially because you have a hasty three.

i mean i haven’t done the simulation but i truthiness know it to be true.
