Draft Log

Early Picks

I might have overly committed to mono-black with the late Covetous Urges. Ending up with three (which might be one too many…) Then there was some white, but I was so black committed. It was a mess.

Deck

Well I guess this is a control deck looking to get some card advantage off the Urges. Lack of Forbidding Fruit and defensive speed, which is worrisome.

Results

  • Round 1 vs. Gb: Oppo got a fast start with twin Wildwood Trackers. Oppo had four in fact, but I stabilized with removal and some recursion and it felt great. Game 2 I kept a sketchy hand but apparently so did oppo and they conceded on turn 2 (?).
  • Round 2 vs. Rb: turn4 opportunistic dragon when I was one mana short of Pie. Then the Burning Yard Trainer ended it. Game 2 I went on the draw again only for another vicious curve-out, with Steelclaw Lance into the doublestriking Raging Redcap. I made a mistake on my mull, keeping both Covetous Urges.
  • Round 3 vs. BG. Oppo curved into Deathless Knight (4/2 haste). With two Pies in hand, I felt safe so I went for the discard play. Oppo discarded two forests, cast a second Deathless Knight and it was all over. I definitely underestimated how much pressure I was under there. Game 2 they got the Deathless Knight again with a Golden Goose for infinite food and a very early 7/7 giant. I get some value out of Order of Midnight and Foulmire Knight but fall.

Learnings

Still not sure what I should have done in this lane. Maybe let go of the Covetous Urges and go more BW? Blech
