Early picks

P1p1: Gravedigger vs. Ancestral Blade. Power level & desire color. Close, I think I just generally like low-to-the-ground decks and trying to make an under drafted color work. Plus I just love white! What can I say.

P1p2: Chandra’s Outrage vs. Cloud-Kin Seer (uncommon missing). This is a tougher choice. I really like Cloud-Kin Seer

P1p3: Very weak pack. Bow vs. a random Temple? Yuck. Bow I guess.

P1p4 is more interesting. Beserker vs. Syphon vs. Scuttlemutt.

I think Berserker is the most powerful in the vacuum (good 2-drop), Syphon is just fine removal, and Scuttlemutt is the most open. I want to take the good 2-drop, but I’m feeling sufficiently unsettled where the colorless fixing card felt like the more disciplined choice.

I ended pack 1 in pretty clear UR. White is nowhere to be seen and there was a late Fenlurker too, but that’s about it.

Pack 2 is just incredibly dry. Shocked to see Red and Blue both so dry when I can’t recall passing anything aside from the Chandra’s Outrage. Pack 2 I get some more pieces and end up with… this?

Draft Log

Deck

Aggro deck relying on lots of evasion (flying, Smugglers). Missing an Axe (which is always delicious with the Smugger). Classic “I hope my opponent doesn’t stick a spider” type deck.

Results

• Round 1 vs.: I keep a 1-;lander and… draw a land on turn 2! I get to the Cloud-Kin Seers and drew. Oppo is suspiciously not playing a single card, so I should be careful here. They dropped the Altar to get the demon that I Unsummoned. I’ll be honest, that felt like a three-for-one! I sideboard out an Octoprophet for a Fry (saw a lot of Plains, which was a total fluke apparently). Oppo got off to a fast start then started Bag of Holding it up for a lot of card advantage. Oppo defended with looping Skeletons (I take one out of commission with a Sleep Paralysis) and then killed them with the air force.
• Round 2: I keep a 5-lander with the Pirate that can draw me out, only for it to eat removal. I then lose. I then lose again.
• Round 3 vs. RG: We both go straight to racing with oppo a turn ahead. It really tightened up, but oppo found their removal and bought back and beat me.

Learnings

This is a super delicate aggro deck, but I don’t see another fit in my seat. Maybe there’s a leak in the gameplay with keeping & mulling the aggressive decks?
