Engage stream of consciousness mode since I couldn’t get the video capture software up and running in time!
Pack 1: Not getting any clear signals, though the density of good red seemed clear, if not the Fantastic-Four of the mono-red. Might want to prioritize fixing to supplement the Treasure Dragon. Later on, there was some mediocre black, but nothing worth moving into. I kept taking medium red cards. It looked like RW is my lane, which is… bad.
In pack 2, I take Goblin Smugger P2p1 with the hope that I wheel the dual-land. Nothing really worth moving out of my lane. Interesting P2p3, between Chandra’s Spitfire & a second Mask of Immolation. I take the Spitfire. I guess wheeling the RW dual lands was greedy, but who the hell is taking those!?
I opened poop soup in pack 3. The Rugged Highlands if I splash green maybe? But finally the removal started to flow and I end up with the ‘mono-red splash white’ deck.

Results
- Round 1 vs. BG: I kept a 4-lander with a perfect curve from Torch Spitter to Pack Mastiff to Chandra’s Spitfire. Oppo got off to a slow start, but gained 6 life with the Gift of Paradise and Healer of the Glade (?) which definitely stabilized them. And then then I flooded a bit (8 land out of 13 cards). Well now 9/14, and they cast a Vorstclaw. Classic game where incidental lifegain saved them. In game 2 I mull a hand without red mana and then keep a hand with one mountain. I drew into mana (eventually) but oppo had early removal. They last Vorstclaw again, which is a pretty effective move against me. A feel-bad loss for sure.
- Round 2 vs. RG: I stared at a 5-land hand for a while and mulled it. I then get a hand with no red mana. Fortunately I get saved by drawing into a Mountain, but still pretty annoyed. I flooded out on.. Daggersail Aeronauts. Perhaps three is too many. I stay on the front foot, but oppo gets a nice combo of rare Chandra with Overgrowth Elemental. The sacrificial elementals from her 0 gain life and pump the elemental. Slick! Still, I powered through the air. Game 2 I kept a 4-lander only to get out-curved by the oppo. They Flame Sweep away my army of dorks. Game 3 I stayed in front, but oppo pulled off a very cool Thunderkin Awakener/Overgrowth Combo. They buffed the Thunderking, then I killed it, but now the Thunderkin can bring it back *every* turn. Whoops! Fortunately they left themselves too open and I exactsied them on the crackback.
Round 3 vs UB. Oppo dropped a startling number of Faerie Miscreants on me. I started to flood (8 lands on 14 cards) but my smugglers got me there. Oppo had A LOT of Faeries. in game 2, oppo got stuck on mana while my deck was quite happy on 3 mana. I use Act of Treason to snat
Learnings
Well Lords of Limited was right: mono-red is definitely a thing. The Daggersail Aeronauts weren’t great, the Mastiffs were great (particularly when I got three out at once), and it’s a pretty good plan if everyone else at the table is hammering Sultai.
