A strange draft. A wheeled Leyline Prowler in pick 12 and Depark in pick 14 nudged me into the Abzan colors. Extra Spark Harvests put me more firmly in black

This was a tricky build and it went through some iterations. At first I had Dovin’s and an extra Despark, but this deck critically lacks bombs. So Primordial Wurm, as bad as it is, get in there! I also

Results

• Round 1 vs Jeskai: oppo gets stuck on 3 mana, I get stuck on some of my splashes and double black. Eventually I flood while they sneak a Grateful Apparition through with that silly blue sorcery to get the chain going. Game 2: I keep a 2-land hand and stumble. Oppo also stumbles on mana giving me room to breathe, but I’m stuck on 3 land and a Prowler for FAR too long. I almost recover by spending my removal and getting it back with Deliver Unto Evil, but I was just too far behind on the board state. Incredibly enough I did actually stabilize, while being pecked down by the Grateful Apparition. I pull it out and oppo had zero clock left. Woof!
• Round 2: I keep a hand that’s a bit clunky (4 land, Geode & Centaur) only to draw more land. Sigh. Pull off a Causalities of War snagging three targets which left oppo with a Grateful Apparition without any support. Deliver Unto Evil reloaded me. Game 2 oppo starts with back-to-back charmed strays and puts brutal pressure on me while going to 37 life. Yeah, I lose that one. Game 3 I ramp out a Primordial Wurm and… that’s a lot bigger than Divine Arrow. It relentlessly pounds down.
• Round 3: Chris piloted round 3 while I went overseas and apparently got crushed. Details to come!

Learnings

Deliver Unto Evil delivered the goods, especially when I had boatloads of removal in the yard.
