Draft
While you can’t complain whenever there’s a god in your draft, this didn’t feel great. RW seemed like the open seat, but I’ll be damned if I can figure out a way to get there. None of the power red commons flowed. Tibalt P1p4 is late but not egregiously so. 10th District Legionnaire is a signal of sorts I suppose, but what am I going to put with it? Wanderer’s Strike? Feels like I scuffed my way through this.
Deck

Results
- Round 1 vs UW proliferate: Early Grateful Apparition recharges Nahiri & Wander. Game 2 I get to a good start, but stall on land before I can summon the dreadhorde. Oppo’s deck was classic War of the Spark strong: good planeswalkers and a lot of incremental value.
- Round 2 vs. GW proliferate: mull to 6 and stumble on mana. Oppo gets a fast start with properly timed (Courage in Crisis, &c. Second game was closer, but he once again got the proliferate train rolling to the tune of a 6/8 flying war screecher. I stalled for value, getting some good stuff out of Eternal Taskmaster, but eventually get overwhelmed when he topdecks removal for my blocker.
- Round 3 vs. GBu. Samut allows a couple of good attacks. Then at 2 life, oppo starts slamming stablizing planeswalkers, Flux Channeler, and the mill race is on! I get a flier on the last possible turn. Game 2 I finally get Command the Dreadhorde and it is as amazing as advertised!
Learnings
I felt like this deck was… better than it’s final performance. Being in black and not having ANY of the good removal definitely hurt. Samut wasn’t terrible with an abundance of creatures, but it really wants to be on the front foot for sure.
