Draft

Felt like another pretty straight-forward Gruul draft, except didn’t get any of the gold payoffs (except for Collision//Colossus). So going to play this like a low to the ground aggro deck. Be interesting to see how the Scorchmarks do as a possible double-spell on 4-5 lands.

  • Round 1 vs. Bant: just curbed out and murdered a durdle-deck.
  • Round 2 vs. Azorius: We both stall out but I get him down to 7 and get stopped by a Lumbering Battlement. Somehow the threat of the Smelt-Ward Ignus inspires him to concede (this surprised me somewhat). Game 2 is similar, as I get onto the front foot and don’t really let up. Drawing both C//Cs to power through Knight Arbiters, 5/5 Sphinxes, etc. helped a lot.
  • Round 3 vs. Gruul: oppo lands an early Ram with two gates that is a pain. I’m sacrificing resources to try to squeak the last few points of damage through before a Ravager Wurm ends that plan. Game 2 I keep a 3-lander that lacks 2-drops, oppo mulls to 5. And sits on manascrew (2 lands) as I finish him. Game 3, he’s back on the play. I keep all red land, and loot twice with BTV and still can’t come up with a forest. He gets lots of loot triggers and overwhelms me.

Learnings

Burning-Tree Vandal really does help keep high land hands with confidence.
