Draft Log

Seemed a very straightforward orzhov. Feels a little cut, there’s definitely another drafter at the table (which–of course–there should be)

Deck

Okay, what is this deck trying to do? Angelic Exaltation is clearly the win-con, so I want to go wide and eventually peck through with a flier or a big Bell-Haunt. This is a bit at odds with sacrificing my own stuff with Final Payment and Bladebrand, so I’ll have to balance that.

Results

  • Round 1: Against mediocre simic, first I mull to 5, but I get a pretty good curve out while my opponent stumbles on mana. But screw beats flood as I stall right before lethal. Game 2 I curve out almost perfectly (Bell-Haunt into Grasping Thrull is mean). Game 3 I walk my Footlight Fiend RIGHT into Faerie Duelist. Then I spectacle Blade Juggler right into Essence Capture. So that happened. I eventually lose to an air force.
  • Round 2: Gruul opponent lands an early Rhythm of the Wild, but I’m on the front foot with Angelic Exaltation. Some games that were pretty intense and I forgot to take notes, but I pulled it out! A feel-good win.
  • First I lost to Priest of the Forgotten Gods. Then I curve out almost perfectly. Then an interesting stall where the card that could win me the game instantly (Angelic) I never draw, but I work it the hard way.

Learnings

Drawing multiples of Angelic Exaltation definitely sucks, though it was pretty much the only way this deck could win. 2 is good, 3 would be too many for sure.

2-1
