Draft
Well that certainly felt like an Arena draft, pre-gate adjustment. Getting the Gates Ablaze and Colossus back-to-back certainly felt pretty clear. It was interesting weighing taking gates over good playables. A gate over Skewer the Critics? I think pretty good removal is better than a gate in the abstract.
Deck
Results
- Round 1: faced a similar deck who got their Colossus first on game 1. Then they got the colossus on game 2 with an End-Raze Forerunners (the overrun boar). I somehow survived that onslaught, but it’s real hard to fend that off continually. One draw step away from Archway Angel too. Sigh.
- Round 2: I choose draw, and opponent mulls to 5. I promptly just beat down with a Gatebreaker Ram followed by a Chillbringer. Game 2 I cast a turn-5 Colossus for 3 mana, which felt a little dirty.
- Round 3: I choose draw again facing a Rakdos deck that had no drops… until Judith! We race a bit but Gateway Angel stabilizes me nicely. Opponent then drops.
Learnings
Definitely a little disappointed that this only went 2-1, but I did run into a very good deck that did what I did, only better. Drawing first did feel fine honestly, I think the defensive speed with the 2-drops was sufficient.
