We draft! We parent! We draft again! (it’s possible that the Mad Max: Fury Road reference isn’t aging particularly well, but damn fine movie) Wasn’t able to comment on the draft, as the Raptor Momma was working, “saving the world from cancer.” Doesn’t she realize that we also need saving from bad drafting? Who’s the real hero here.

Pack 1 Pick 2

After an easy windmill slam of Djinn of Three Wishes, I came across this very interesting fork. Luminous Bonds is the best card in the vacuum, but the other two cards are also great in a blue deck. Do I take the more powerful card that’s off-color or do I try to cement in blue and support the near-bomb I have in the Djinni? I opted to stay as open as possible and took the Bonds (white was immediately and completely cut all pack). The most recent episode of LR discussed this very question in depth. Obviously the dream is being monocolor in pack 1 for maximum flexibility in pack 2. But you feel pretty silly fighting for mediocre cards.

The answer to this question depends on a lot of variables. Is your P1p1 a bomb worth dying for, clawing for a color? How many playables are in the set determines how much time you have to find your lane.

Learnings

I thought I was a little low on the power level of this deck. I was wrong. I got a little lucky, but fighting through Lathliss and Spit Flame *three times* in round one I think earned me enough karma to cruise against some weaker competition in subsequent rounds. I never faced a truly vicious curve-out deck (which could have definitely given me some trouble) so my ability to reload and bury them under additional resources was a good plan. Using Salvager of Secrets to get back a Switcheroo to then give them the lame 2/2 is pretty sweet. The Skyrider Elf (edit: Skyrider Patrol) is a one-card win condition. The train to value-town!
