Draft Details

Pretty fun and clear draft. The P1p2 choice of Vicious Offering vs. Skittering Surveyor is an interesting one. I love taking splashing very highly… but V.O. is really solid removal. Fast, flexible, powerful. I think it’s worth it. I slotted into black pretty firmly (P1p7 Skin Witch, P1p14 Dark Bargain) while keeping myself open to green or blue as my secondary color. P2p2 Tatyova meant… both!

Deck

Okay this feels good! Good high end (Verdant Force & Belzenlok are legit bombs) with a path to get there with Song of Freyalise. Reasonable removal, good splash for Accelerators (Rona & Tatyova splash nicely) Stall out the game and get there with big thumpy creatures.

Learnings

Well, doesn’t work if you can’t stall. Felt a little unlucky facing some rapid curve-outs with no anti-air answer. Only drew Belzenlok once when at 2 life… and even he wasn’t going to save me even if I could cast them. In the abstract, this deck could have used another piece of anti-air as well as some better stabilizers in the 4-drop slot. The Cabal Paladins are cute with 9 triggers, but they’re not exactly blockers at 4/2. I don’t see where I could have drafted anything differently (I still think you take the first Broken Bond over the first Pierce the Sky). Just one of Those Drafts where you had a reasonable deck with reasonable power and don’t get there.
