As mentioned before, I tend to obsess slightly over lands. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve always enjoyed them. Perhaps it’s the good mix of landscapes (always a favorite) with Magic cards, a beautiful Venn diagram if there ever was one. Anyway, this manifests itself in various ways: pages of dual-lands in my binder (a shocking percentage of my “trade” binder is–in fact–not for trade) and my obsessive curation of basic lands.

But I come not to bury Caesar, but rather celebrate an additional piece to the puzzle. Rebecca Guay basic land art!

It’s been commented at length by people with far better taste than I, but Magic art is unquestionably “better” now than the early days, but also more homogenous.  I miss the artists with a visually distinctive style: Quinton Hoover, Drew Tucker, and the like. Rebecca Guay’s watercolors is probably one of the most popular, first appearing in Mirage and Alliances. And at long last, she has some basic lands!

Now I’m cheating here a little bit, as one of my criteria for basic land inclusion is that it’s from a set I played. But I feel have one of my personal favorite artists available is too good of an opportunity to pass up. Plus my swamp selections are TERRIBLE. A welcome upgrade.
