Hosted an M25 draft on Sunday and it was a genuine bucket of fun. Mostly just a really good excuse to play with some broken cards and we opened some doozies. But most importantly, it was an excuse to dress up the Baby Raptor.
Oh yeah, we are on POINT. Actually an interesting question to ponder when she would graduate to 1/1 or even 1/2. Perhaps when she can start objecting rather than enthusiastically slurping down whatever food we place near her face.
A quick draft review: there is a lot of power in this set so make sure to have a powerful deck. Nobody at the table did any of the go-wide strategies so there were embarrassingly late Hordeling Outbursts and suchlike. Sam put together a shockingly entertaining Ensnaring Bridge deck which may not have won the tournament but definitely conquered our hearts. Dan had a vicious little UR tempo control that was easy to get overwhelmed by. Oh, right, and the Bident.
My own deck was pretty mediocre BG ‘good stuff’ and performed down to that description. I got some Assembly Workers, some ramp, some graveyard shenanigans, some rats, some cycling, and mostly just farted around not doing a lot. However, there was one stone-cold bomb
This is one of those classic examples of a card that’s hard to read so you’re so exhausted emotionally that you can’t really judge it. Basically it Wraths the board but anything that was in the graveyard pre-Wrath comes back to life. So the dream is to cycle a few dudes into the graveyard, wrath the board, and then you have creatures and your opponent doesn’t (a good state of affairs). Pulled this off a few times and let me assure you: it felt great.
